We at Quarriers are trying to come up with a title for describing all types of technology incl communication aids, smart phones, computers, game consoles, environmental aids any ideas?
Should there be one way of describing all of these? i.e. Digital Media, Smart Technology, Assistive Technology ect ect what words pull all of this together? Is there such a thing?
All thoughts and ideas appreciated!

I don't think there is such a thing. Well none that I can think of at the moment. It would be helpful to have one catch all phrase rather than having to explain in a long winded way.
I'll get my thinking cap on and try to wrustle up an idea or two.
Thanks yes it can be long winded especially when you write about it.
Much appreciated!
Its actually been harder than I imagined to get some decent ideas. I'll list the ones that I've come up with so far and even if they aren't of all that much use they might spur others to ome up with a final term.
Technological Enchancements (sounds a bit cyborgish!)
If I come up anymore I'll get back to you.
I think out of the ones you listed Smart Technology is the best one but that could be too closely associated with smart phones.
I hope you get a good term out of this discussion.
Hi Diane, I think of it as 'assistive technology' mostly, although gaming I always think of 'accessible gaming'
Probably not much help!
One story for you.
I worked with a severely disabled gentleman, (think Christopher Reeves) who had environmental controls fitted throughout the house. He could open curtains, front door door, answer telephones and turn on lights.
Then he went into hospital, and was in a single room. He did not even have the power to press the buzzer.
After a few days of this, he said to me in wonder:
"I'm really quite disabled , you know!"
So technology makes a huge difference. But the other element which matters tremendously is that we think when we design. The happiest I have seen tis guy was in Puerto Rico, where all the pavements are shallow and at an angle of 45 degrees. He could cross the road anywhere with ease, and did, just because he could! he had never zig-zagged across a road in his life with such frequency and he enjoyed this freedom in a way that is difficult to convey. (It did mean a twenty mile an hour speed limit, though)
The other essential that requires looking at carefully is wheelchair design. It could be so much more user friendly in this day and age of technology. But we seem to be stuck to the original idea which was a dining room chair on wheels!
Kind regards,
Linda
I call it stuff!!!
Hi Diane,
I would go for Smart Tech as a general term since more and technology is either connected (to eachother and/or the Internet) plus they contain a growing amount of programmable processing power. I inhabit the converging worlds of mobile phones, TV set top boxes and tablets, all of which are growing in their raw computing power (you can now get a SIM card with a processor and Android onboard, offering the potential to turn any mobile into a smart phone). Connecting them up turns them into Smart Systems, which can even share and learn.
Hope this helps

Hello
Sorry for the delay in my reply everyone I just realised my notifications were going into my junk mail. All sorted now thats when technology is being too smart eh? :-) Thanks for all of your replies and I suppose I'm glad to see i'm not the only one struggling to come up with a name.
Smart Technology, Assitive Technology i like in relation to what I do but to encompass all type of technology I suppose a more generic term is needed although isn't all technology pretty smart! So i'm thinking Smart Technology or Digital Technology or Digital Media! Ha well least we have lots of suggestions.
Thanks again for your suggestions speak soon Diane
