To celebrate the opening of the new Amorcare Mobility store in Stafford by ex Stoke FC footballer Andy Morgan, fellow Stoke player and local ‘legend’ John Ruggiero presented a prize winning TGA Eclipse mobility scooter to Mrs Maureen Hammond from Great Haywood on 19 December 2012.
Andy Morgan, aged 50 and born locally in Silverdale, is the co-owner of Amorcare Mobility Stores and before setting up this business with his wife Nicky (41 from Kidsgrove), he played professional football for Stoke City and gained an international cap for Wales. Following his time at Stoke he played all around the world and after retirement from the game, he became their Community Manager for over 10 years followed by eight years at Wolverhampton Wanderers in a similar role. Today, Andy and Nicky are proud owners of Amorcare, which is a very successful mobility specialist that really makes a difference to the lives of many elderly and disabled locals. Their first specialist mobility outlet in Newcastle-under-Lyme’s High Street has been a huge success and is now to be complemented with an additional 820sqft retail showroom at 12-14 Crabbery Street, Stafford. This new Amorcare showroom, similar to the sister store in Newcastle, is already supplying a comprehensive range of quality mobility products from TGA scooters, such as the BBC Top Gear winning Breeze 4, Vita and Sonet through to smaller aids for daily living.
As Andy’s strong connections with Stoke FC are still very much present, legendary player John Ruggiero presented a winning TGA Eclipse mobility scooter to Mrs Hammond at the Stafford store. John kindly stood in at the last minute as Terry Conroy was originally going to present the prize but was unfortunately taken ill with the Norovirus.
Mrs Hammond is now the proud owner of a TGA Eclipse mobility scooter that is ideal for shopping around town and taking further afield in the boot of a car. Mrs Hammond comments: “I feel very privileged to have won this superb mobility scooter. As I have arthritis and experienced hip problems over the last three years, this TGA Eclipse is going to change my life. I would really like to thank Andy for all the care and attention he has shown me and for the diligence he demonstrates regularly when helping other customers. I have witnessed this first hand – he really is very special. I would also like to thank John for presenting me with the scooter; he was an absolute delight to meet. My new TGA Eclipse feels very sturdy, comfortable and is really well made. My husband is also very impressed with how easy it is to assemble and disassemble which will be ideal for when we take it out in the car. Winning this amazing prize is a fantastic end to a difficult year and I can’t wait to be able to visit my local shops once more independently and without the worry.”
Andy concludes: “Nicky and I are so pleased with Mrs Hammonds reaction to winning this TGA Eclipse – she is so grateful and could not have been more gracious in accepting the prize. We thank John so much for stepping in at the last minute to present the prize and wish his ex-playing colleague Terry a speedy recovery. The TGA Eclipse is a fantastic piece of kit that will make a real difference to Mrs Hammond’s life and the ‘feel good’ factor both Nicky and I have experienced today, reiterates why we thoroughly enjoy helping locals regain independence.”
