Get Going Live!, the test-driving event for young and novice drivers with disabilities, is back for 2016 as part of the 33-year old Mobility Roadshow (26th-28th May, Silverstone Circuit, Northants).
Co-hosted by the charities Mobility Choice and Disabled Motoring UK, this popular three day test-drive feature focuses on the needs of younger people with disabilities and novice drivers. Get Going Live! has helped many young people across the UK discover adapted driving controls for the first time and explore options for accessible motoring. Visitors and their families, including teenagers from age 15, will be able to safely test drive a range of adapted cars accompanied by Advanced Driving Instructors.
As people with a disability can gain their driving license a year early at age 16, Get Going Live! helps teenagers choose the right first vehicle for them. Get Going Live! also benefits mature drivers who may wish to explore options for safer, more comfortable driving. As Get Going Live! is incorporated into the Mobility Roadshow, visitors can take advantage of a wealth of specialist mobility products and services on display in the impressive Silverstone Wing.
Inspirational young disabled racing driver Alex Tait, 16 from Sheffield, lives with a hereditary muscle wasting condition. Alex is a Get Going Live! Ambassador for 2016 and explains: “I am chuffed to have been given the role of Get Going Live! Ambassador this year, it’s a real honour. Even though I have Myotonic Dystrophy I make sure this doesn’t hold me back. I attended the 2013 Get Going Live! and everything escalated from there as I subsequently won a disabled driver’s scholarship to compete for a season in Autosolos and Autotests. Then in early 2014, I took my ARDS (racing licence) test and passed. I now race in the BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championships with a team called ‘Specialised Motorsport’.”
Alex concludes: “I will be at Get Going Live! and available to chat to all visitors regarding my experiences – it is a show that is very close to my heart. Only by visiting this event have I been able to get to my privileged position in motorsport. The Mobility Roadshow and Get Going Live! illustrates to all people, young and old, that even with a disability, it can be easy to get driving and remain independent with the right specialist products and solutions.”
All show visitors to Get Going Live! can access expert advice on tuition and mobility information from The Forum of Mobility Centres and Advanced Driving Instructors. Admission and parking is free, as are test drives and entry to The Mobility Roadshow – the largest consumer mobility event of its kind. There will be a vast range of products on display including wheelchairs, mobility scooters, car boot hoists, ramps and in-vehicle safety systems.
