Telling the time is an essential function of most people’s day and we do it unconsciously sometimes having to double check as we forget the time the first time we look. With a progressing amount of technology on the market helping make people’s lives more independent, this featured innovation features the redesign of the watch.  This timepiece is called The Bradley.

The Bradley is a time piece named after ex-navy officer Bradley Synder. Bradley Synder was injured in Afghanistan when he was on a mission for his country. He and a few other Afghanistan soldiers ended up standing on an IED and his glasses were blown off his head and with the bright flash from the explosion blinding him in the process. Bradley did not let this accident take over his life he is quoted as saying “I will not let my blindness build a brick wall around me”. He later went on and won silver and gold medals at the 2012 Paralympics. Bradley has provided invaluable feedback and supported the development of this time piece.

The Bradley

The Bradley is a wrist time piece for everyone, originally designed with the blind in mind. For the blind this time piece makes day-to-day life possible without bringing attention to their disability. For sighted users this time piece provides a very unique way of telling the time through touch and can be done very discretely.

  • A ball bearing on the time piece’s face provides the minutes in the hour
  • A ball bearing in the side of the time piece provides the hour of the day
  • If the ball bearing moves away from the minute it should be at a flick of the wrist will place it back
  • Titanium Body is durable and easy to clean
  • Raised hour markers make it easy to tell the time through touch
  • Major Hour markers are texturized and easy to distinguish from the others

The Bradley was originally a kick starter campaign and now could become a design to follow and the days of hands on watches/time pieces could be gone. Shipping is estimated to start on May 12th 2014. Telling the time should not require sight.
