A similar narrative by Finklestein came to my attention 12 years ago whilst visiting parts of Scotland to talk about disability rambling (on scooters and in wheelchairs).  The video makes the same points which are totally valid. We need more videos and articles along these lines as I believe It helps people realize the extent of cultural discrimination for the first time.

Hi Stella,

Glad you enjoyed it. I do think it raised some interesting questions about how we define disability. We welcome input from bespoken members and if you'd like to offer any ideas for ways in which we could underline the above point feel free to drop me a line anytime at paulr@blackwoodgroup.org.uk.

Cheers.

Paul

Maybe you could find the original narrative by Finklestein?  ..... I have lost my copy but often feel the need for it for meetings etc.

Much as it is good to focus on the positive, I also believe it helps me to grieve for the person I lost and to recognise and accept the difficult times and experiences.  Melanie Reid who writes for the Times covers this aspect of living with a disability.  Perhaps she would allow bespoken to use her column/or make a link from site to site??

I am having huge difficulties with the local authority trying to put care into place, I could moan for Britain on this subject at present.  The unresolved situation has been ongoing for 17 months now ....... and counting
