This brilliant little number is called the Energy Egg. The name is fairly easy to explain - it saves energy and looks a little bit like an egg; simple. But more importantly, it could save you an awful lot of hassle and worry.
What it does is automatically, and remotely, switches off electrical appliances in the room. Fitted with sensors, it detects the level of activity in the room. If a room has been still for long enough, the Energy Egg switches off any appliances in the room that are still using electricity. Rest assured though, it apparently is clever enough to know the difference between an empty room and, for example, people sitting watching TV for a while, so you won’t be annoyed by everything switching off half way through your favourite programme. Its first and most obvious advantage is that it has the potential to seriously reduce the cost of your energy bills. But if you are the kind of person who is prone to leaving electrical appliances switch on, or know someone who does, it could prevent a serious safety hazard.
I’m thinking in particular of someone who has dementia and is more likely to go away and leave the iron switched on or some other device that could cause a fire. Even without the safety hazard, accidentally leaving things switched on will send you’re your energy bills through the roof, and the Egg could save you from unnecessary expense.
In this same vein, someone who has limited mobility and struggles to get about their home could benefit from the Energy Egg, as it also features a manual switch that allows you to deactivate electrical appliances from this one device.
