A number of people have responded to my post on Making Adaptive Equipment concerning a manual transfer to a toilet seat. Even though I spend the majority of my time in a power chair and am unable to transfer myself I have a couple of ideas concerning a manual transfer. I am writing to gather some information as to what a toilet seat in the United Kingdom looks like. My ideas, obviously, have been formed around an American toilet seat. I see no purpose in pursuing a solution without the knowledge of what your toilet seats look like. If someone could send me some pictures of the common toilet seat in Great Britain it would help greatly in trying to come up with a solution. I am particularly interested in the underside of the part of the toilet seat that lifts up and what the porcelain bottom underneath the seat looks like. I guess this is a good example of cultural diversity. Do we share the same type of toilets? Diplomacy at its greatest.
