Need a cuddle? No, this isn’t a new initiative we’re trying out. When I say cuddle I’m actually referring to a Walking stick holder made by Sonnika.
The walking stick holder is a fairly straight forward idea and comes in a variety of different versions. The cuddle, is about the size of my hand, gets fixed to the wall with some screws and has a clasping mechanism that opens and closes depending on the pressure applied.
Ideally it is intended for public areas. For example: a person, who relies on a walking stick or crutches, is in front of the counter at the bank or a shop, and they need to get something out of their wallet/handbag/or whatever, or they need to use a card machine to make a payment. Unless they are blessed with great dexterity in both their arms, they will need both hands for this, and resting their walking stick against a wall is a good way for it to fall down, and if they struggle to walk without a stick, it’s a safe bet that bending down to retrieve it won’t be easy.
The Cuddle provides a simple and effective solution to prevent awkward and embarrassing situations. If placed at a convenient spot, the user can pop their stick into the grasp of the cuddle, and rummage for their wallet at their leisure. It might be advisable in this scenario to have some kind of rail or something present for the person to lean against if they need help with their balance.
What do you think? Is this a good idea or is ill thought out? Leave us a comment below!

Hi,
We use our Cuddles for canes used by visually impaired people. They are excellent for this purpose and of course it's very important for visually impaired people to know exactly where their canes are, every time they need to use them.
We have a query - we need to get hold of some extra screws (the ones that hold the Cuddle 'clip' onto the mounting plate) but are having trouble locating the manufacturer. The screws are not standard so any help would be much appreciated. Can anyone help please?
Hi,
Yeah it's surprisingly hard to find contact details for Sonnika. I did however find an article on Able Magazine that lists sales@sonnika.com as a contact email. The bad news is that it was featured a few years ago so the email may have changed since. Still might be worth a shot though.
Hope this proves helpful.
Paul
Hi Paul,
Many thanks for your help - I'll give it a go.
