One of the issues with telecare especially if it is required for a temporary period is the need for broadband or a telephone line. The Tynetec Reach Plus GSM works anywhere there is a mobile phone reception. The design of the unit is stylish and looks a little like a digital radio. We also like the I’m okay function and the ability to re-programme the unit remotely. The product is due to launch in a couple of months time but the standard phoneline version is available now. Telecare Translator

Another development we like is the Telecare Translator a product that enables telecare devices from different manufacturers to work in conjunction with each other. To be technical for a minute the devices work on either 169Mhz or 869Mhz the device enables them to talk to each other.

Wrist Worn GPS Locator

One of the worries for the family members and carers of people with dementia is the tendency for people to get lost if they stray from the home environment. There is the added danger of falls or other hazards like rivers and busy roads. Wrist worn GPS locators can help track people and can activate alerts if the person moves into an area of danger. The problem with these devices is the short battery life and the need to remember to charge the device. A new development of the Ease GPS is the long battery life of up to 3 months with just a 1 hour charge time. This one is still in development but we think has the potential to save lives.

Wrist Worn Fall Detector

Finally a new wrist worn fall detector completes the range of new developments. We know many people that dislike the pendant worn around the neck and the wrist worn version is much less intrusive. This one is available now for more details click here.

This wrist worn falls detector in my case is proactively helping me avoid falls.

I regularly would fall off or over a chair arm now that has ceased, how? As I spend hours sat working on my PC having to sit in ever more awkward positions to help minimize spinal pain as soon as my seated angle got to around 60 deg the device vibrates on the wrist and triggers the initial alarm allowing me to wake up or correct my position ....fall avoided.
