It would be good if mobile phones  had a loud  audible alert of when you have a signal.

it would assist blind and visually impaired people to know when they could make a call on their phones

However it would have a wider market as it could be used in emergencies by non-disabled people when you need to know as soon as possible that you have a signal

This idea arose from hillwalking this week  when was my birthday and I was in the hills needing to get in touch  , and checking for a signal was difficult .

Great idea.  This could be a function that you can turn on/off and also something that could be adjusted in terms of volume, vibration etc.  Hopefully when we get a few more prople on the site we can find out if any phones do this already?

If you have an Android phone, there's an app called "No Signal Alert", which, according to their blurb "detects when your phone is in a "dead zone" or with no reception and sends a customized notification of your choice (sound, vibrate, led color indicator, etc). No Signal Alert can keeps track of every time you loose and recover your phone signal, providing users with useful statistics such as time, location and address when signal was lost."

Features:
★ Customize your alerts completely (sound, vibrate, led, etc.)
★ Record and maintain logs of your phone signal events
★ Supports GSM/CDMA

The basic version, which is customizable for different sounds, led flashing in different colours and/or vibrate when your signal vanishes and reappears, is totally free.

If you want the full version, which view statistics for your carrier, export to an Excel file or save to your SD card costs a whopping £1.22!!

It isn't something that I need, as my vision is fine, but I've installed it to try it out.

I put my phone in Airplane Mode, which kills all signals, and it worked perfectly.

If I find any problems. or anything better, I'll report back.

Love, light and peace to all,

Ian

Thanks , but it is the opposite that I need .I am often in places where there is no signal and I need to know when I have got enough reception to keep in touch  . I also think this would be a good thing for phones to have for non-disabled people in emergency situations - when one needs to know when one can dial 999 . That is why I think there would be a market for such a phone and it would then move into the disability market for everyday non-emergency situations

Also with my eyesight , I need the simplest possible phone , no internet , no wap, no android ,no smartphone , no test to read on screen,  just dial and talk
