Do you Need Wheelchair Lights to Keep You Safe and Visible at Night?

I've spoken with people in the past who raised the issue of how dangerous it can be going out and about in a wheelchair after dark, when they are particularly vulnerable to traffic.

I've heard stories of people having to take their wheelchair onto the road because of badly maintained pavements which make them impossible to use. Using the road at night without proper lighting is obviously very dangerous. I've heard of near misses from several people.

One man in particular I met had a home made pyramid shaped neon light frame which he popped on the back of his wheelchair when he went out late.

What is your experience of using a wheelchair out and about at night? Is lighting an issue? Do you feel sufficiently safe? Would the following innovation from Berlin be useful to you?
