Let’s face it, Barbie has a shaky background. Lauded by some as an icon of women’s liberation in the 60s and 70s, she has also been criticised for setting a poor example for girls by epitomising everything that is wrong with the stereotype of the airheaded bimbo. Physically the doll always conformed to a very narrow ideal. The manufacturers have never really been noted for their efforts to promote diversity and open mindedness.
So imagine my surprise when, whilst doing a little search on disability through Pinterest, I stumbled upon this...

I'll be honest, I did not see that coming. Someone left a comment regarding the above photo along the lines of what a great example it set for disabled girls or indeed all girls. What do you think?
